Kim Jong-un’s sister yesterday (October 8) got a promotion seeing her made an alternate member of the politburo of the political bureau of North Korea’s ruling party, the Workers’ Party of Korea.
Although she had previously appeared less often in the spotlight than her brother, 28-year-old Kim Yo-jong started to show her face more and more often during political events in Pyongyang and elsewhere in the country.

Yo-jong was only the second woman to be initiated into the party after her aunt Kim Kyong-hui, who held powerful roles when her brother Kim Jong Il ruled.
It took Kyong-hui three decades to be given a promotion, unlike her niece who has quickly risen through the ranks.
The North Korean leader’s sister has previously played a significant role in propaganda efforts by the Workers’ Party of Korea, appearing in tears at her father’s funeral in December 2011.
Since then, she has extended her influence within North Korea’s top decision-making body.
Having kept a low profile, Yo-jong would be totally unknown to most North Koreans.
The siblings are the children of former ruler Kim Jong-il and the grandchildren of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s founder Kim Il-sung.
